Prima Pramac goes aggressive with its 2024 design, featuring more ‘Prima’ purple instead of the white base color that we have been accustomed to over the years.
The new Prima colors also indicates increased involvement of Prima as a title sponsor for Pramac Ducati, after a very triumphant 2024 where the Tuscan-based team emerged as the first ever independent team world champions.
Prima Pramac Ducati also becomes the first MotoGP team to launch its new bike at an F1 circuit, with the bike being revealed at the Sakhir International Circuit, Bahrain.
The lineup for the Prima Pramac Ducati team will feature vice-champion Jorge Martin, alongside newbie Franco Morbidelli who makes the switch from Yamaha. The team will have two brand-new GP24s at their disposal for both its riders.
Jorge Martin also revealed the brand new 2024 helmet on Monday, which hinted at a new look for the Prima Pramac squad. His number eighty-eight will be white for this year as opposed to being blue from years before.
Franco Morbidelli theme would make a successful transfer to the Prima Pramac design as the Italian’s iconic floral design along with his heritage Italian and Brazilian flag wouldn’t go anywhere. He would also bring the same design for the number twenty one that he had with Yamaha.
“With these colors we will be faster!” Jorge Martin said when speaking to MotoGP.com. “Even if we were fast last season, I hope we made a great improvement.”
“[New bike] looks super aggressive and hopefully we can be as aggressive on the track”
When quizzed if Prima Pramac can be world champions this year again, Jorge suggested that there is no reason why the Tuscan-based team wouldn’t be successful in 2024.
“For sure we can! The thing is we don’t have to be obsessed with the final result but instead we need to focus on the process, to train to be ready and take it race by race and then in the end see if we can win.”
Franco Morbidelli missed most of the preseason after suffering an injury at a private test in Portugal where the Italian was left completely unconscious. His last sensations of riding a GP24 were in the Valencia test last November, however at the team launch, ‘Franky’ looked in very good spirits.
“I feel wonderful!” said the #21 “The bike looks amazing and the place is great, its a racing environment but little bit different compared to our usual one”
It’s nice to have a great presentation in such a way, especially for me as I didn’t ride the bike all winter, so to jump on it and have some meters on it and [feel] the sensations from the bike is just great!
“We are not gonna pay too much attention to the results as we missed completely the tests and the totality of the field has done test on that track, so it’s going to be difficult”
“I need to get used to the new bike and get a feeling and learn to ride it in a best way but I’m planning on doing very good things on this bike. The feeling this bike gives, from what I remembered in Valencia, has been incredible!”
“So we will see if I am able to pull out the maximum potential from the package.”
Morbidelli is also under huge pressure going into the 2024 season with his contract due to run out at the end of this year.
Rumors form motorsports.com suggest that Prima Pramac is already looking to sign a young Moto2 contender Fermin Aldeguer before the season even started but Morbidelli is assured that the team’s focus will be on him going as he embarks on a new challenge.
“The team has been very supportive towards me, especially after what happened.”
“My crew-chief [Gino] has been working very hard with me to help me understand the package and to pull out the very best from the package in the shortest amount of time. So we’ve been talking a lot about it”
