Reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia leads day 1 of Qatar Test ahead of Pramac’s Jorge Martin

The final hours of the day saw the dust clear up, which led to a fast flurry of laps later on. At the end however, it was Francesco Bagnaia who came out leading from Pramac’s Jorge Martin.
The Italian’s lap time of a 1m 52s was only three tenths down on his 2023 pole position lap as he once again confirms the ominous form of GP24s going into the season opener in Qatar.
Behind the desmo duo at the top was the aprilia of Aleix Espargaro. However, it was his teammate Maverick Vinales who spent most of the day at the top before being displaced in the final hours and finishing in P6. With both Aprilias fighting for top positions, it would be wrong to count out the Italian squad’s in Qatar.
Brad Binder ended the day as the fastest rider from the KTM camp in fourth ahead of last year’s race winner Fabio Digiannantonio.
Fabio Quartararo was Yamaha’s sole representative in the top ten as he finished the day 0.597s down in tenth, again highlighting Yamaha’s weakness in the qualifying runs.
Marc Marquez had an up and down day as he ascended to as high as second place in day time before eventually ending in a lowly sixteenth place.
