Toprak Razgatlioglu capped off a superb weekend in Barcelona with two wins and a third-place finish in race two. Not to mention an amazing last corner pass on Alvaro Bautista to take the Superpole race win, mimicking Valentino Rossi’s late move on Jorge Lorenzo from 2009.

The Turk refers to this race as his top three best performances of his career.

“I was then just thinking in the last corner about what Valentino Rossi did many years ago. I thought, ‘Why not now?’ and I was close enough,” said Razgatlioglu. “I used second gear in the last corner, took the line and the plan was perfect.

“The acceleration wasn’t bad and I am winning again!”

“If I didn’t try, I would’ve been really angry. I needed to see if it worked or not. It’s a good plan and I need to show it.”

“I used second gear for acceleration because maybe in third gear, it doesn’t accelerate well.

“This Superpole Race, and especially the last corner, have given me good memories. Maybe it’s one of my top three race wins.”

The performance in Catalunya also cements Toprak’s position as a genuine threat for the world championship this year, as the Turk was able to find a solution to the rear grip issues that have haunted BMW at this circuit for years.

“The last race was very hard because the Ducati guys are very strong. I just tried to follow those guys, but I was spinning a lot [the rear], and the race was twenty laps.”

“I needed good grip in the last four or five laps [to finish strong]. I wasn’t pushing more because I wanted to finish the race at the limit and if I pushed in the early laps with these guys, I would have had a big drop [in tire performance].”

“But we did another podium, so I’m happy to have three podiums and two wins.”

By scoring the most points out of any rider this weekend, at a track where tire wear is exceptionally high, BMW confirmed themselves to be regular contenders to Ducati over the course of this season.
