After using a lot of his tires, trying to reclaim lost positions, and trying to overtake Vinales in the later laps, Martin entered the final lap trying to cool down his fronts only to be left exposed by Marc Marquez behind, who took little time to make Martin pay. The Prima Pramac rider finished the Sprint race in third.

“Well, it was a difficult race,” said Jorge Martin. “I started really, really bad and then yeah, I was trying to be competitive but I had some issues with the rear [softs], also the front temperature went super, super high.”

Martin made a good launch off the line but he was also trying to fend off Miller, who to his credit also made a great launch. This resulted in Martin getting pinched on the inside of the first corner, allowing others to get past him.

“Well, it was quite complicated,” speaking about his start. “I started quite well, but then I made some move on Miller at the first corner, and then I lost a lot of positions.”

“From that point, I tried to be calm, tried to recover. It was a long race, and yeah, I was already in second position.”

“I tried to overtake Maverick, but I couldn’t, and that’s why my front temperature went super high. I struggled to make that move, and then Marc overtook me, so we need to improve for tomorrow.”

Speaking about his prospects for the main race, Martin felt that compared to Saturday, he is more confident about his chances on Sunday as he feels more confident with the medium tires as opposed to the softs.

“Well, I feel confident with the medium rear!” said Martin

“Today we had, again, those issues with the [soft] rears that normally we didn’t have yesterday or in the morning. So we need to understand it well because it’s a big problem.”
